Groove by Ilê Aiyê
This piece is in 2/4 and has a moderate tempo. Instruments include Repenique, Caixa, Timbal, and five Surdos. The first three surdos play the heartbeat, with a high/low feeling on 1 and 2. The third surdo is very low and it plays on every quarter note beat. If there are too few surdos, these can be compressed into two or even one part. The 4th and 5th surdos are high and play the corte parts. Surdo 4 is the most important, after the heartbeat.
There is a break, called by the Repenique, and all players respond. It can be used to start, break, or end the piece.
